This year German students at Minnesota Virtual Academy (MNVA) had the opportunity to take the National German Exam to qualify for honors and awards. Nationally, over 10,000 students participated in the exam this year. The National German Exam, now in its 61st year, rewards students through an extensive prize program and provides a means of comparing students in all regions of the US. Of those students in the state of Minnesota who took the exam, two of our MNVA students, Aiden Shelton and Silvia Mueller, place first and third in the state, respectively. Aiden’s Gold Level Award earned him an all-expenses-paid trip to the Concordia Language Villages this summer.

These awards will most likely be the first of many to come in future years. Karla Gotham, the German teacher, is planning an international trip to Germany the summer of 2022 and interest in her German program is growing both due to her enthusiastic teaching and her drive to help each student learn German well enough to use it while traveling abroad.
